The overall purpose is capacity-building that translates into concrete local action. The workshop is meant to sharpen participants' organizational skills, critical thinking, and communication skills for community outreach, ultimately leading to stronger civic engagement and a more effective youth volunteer corps aligned with broader U.S.-India shared goals. During the training, participants are expected to examine real challenges in their own communities and develop practical solutions and action plans rather than keeping the learning theoretical.
A key feature of the grant is the required post-workshop rollout across India. After the Chennai workshop, each of the 30 youth leaders receives $500 in seed funding (disbursed by the grantee) to run a "Volunteer for India" orientation program and training session in their respective community. Each of these follow-on events must train at least 50 individuals and must be conducted within two months of the initial workshop. The grantee is not only responsible for distributing these seed funds, but also for monitoring implementation and tracking the outcomes of all 30 community-based programs to ensure the project delivers measurable, on-the-ground impact.
